Richard has been performing the drums in many styles of music since the 8th grade. While is high school, Richard attended stage band, jazz vocal, concert band and clinics at the University of Victoria, Capilano College, University of Calgary and the University of California. Richard attended the Provincial honour Jazz program that was lead under the direction of Frank DeMiro from Seattle. Richard finds teaching to be a rewarding experience as well and hosted a Jazz Quartet at the Jazz program of S.G.H.Q. High School in 1998, 1999 and 2000. Richard also taught drums, percussion and Jazz theory at W.S.S. High School. In addition, Richard was the assistant to Mr. Syd Griffith in directing the Elementary School band.
Richard has performed with groups such as, R&B Funk, Too Fat to Fly, Groove theory as well as rock groups and jazz fusion groups. Currently Richard is the drum technician at Hippo-sonic studios. Richard is looking forward to his Vancouver International Jazz Festival performance with the Wendy Bollard Quartet on June 24th, 2003. Richard also performs at Rossinni's in Gastown every Tuesday night with vetran Jazz pianist, Doug Louie. Richard has also performed with Lisa Miller, Chris Siegerson, Lache Cercel, Steve Smith, Chin, Rattlesnake Jones, Miles Black, Jeff Mahoney, Jon dawson and Mike Fraser.
Richard cites his musical influences as, Roy Haynes, Shelley Mann, Paul Motion, Jack Dejonette, Tony Williams, Aron Scott, Art Blakey and Dave Weckl.
