Jeff Mahoney has been playing the trumpet for over 25 years. His education includes Western Washington University, The Festival at Sandpoint Idaho, The Centrum Port Townsend Jazz Workshop and years of private study with various musicians. His teachers include Gunther Schuller, Victor Lewis, Claudio Roditi, Henry Christian, Jeff Clayton, Terrell Stafford and John Bunch. Jeff has performed with B.B.Coleman for over a year on a U.S. tour playing the blues. The blues influences Jeff and has enriched his playing and understanding of music. Jeff has also performed with Victor Lewis, Roy Hargrove, Jeff Hamilton, Steve Turre, Donald Bailey, Gunther Schuller and many more. His influences include Tom Harrell, Wynton Marsalis, Stan Getz, Duke Ellington, Miles and many more.
Currently, Jeff is working to complete his masters degree in arranging and composition from the Dick Grove School of music. Jeff is studying to become an arranger and orchestrator for many styles of music.
Japan is a very large part of Jeff's musical life. While in Japan, Jeff has performed with his most valued friend and musician, Seiji Tada. Mr.Tada performs regularily in Japan and is cited as one of the finest Jazz musicians in Tokyo. Email Jeff for more info on Seiji Tada's group called, "The Most".
